Alas, the problem starts with pdf files, not AW files. And some of these
are simply too big to load all their pages into AW.

While I still use RISC OS every day for some things, I gave up using it
for any serious graphics work a long, long time ago...
I have absolutely no problems getting images out of PDFs of any size.
It's quite simple really.
On the Win PC Run something like for example, Serif DrawPlus (I'm using
X6) load in your PDF, It's quite capable of loading the whole large PDF.
Copy any graphics required from the PDF and Paste them into your (In my
case PaintShop Pro) Graphics app.
From there you can do whatever you want with 'em, edit, Save out as any
file type required, etc, etc.
