Can't you just change the dpi in !DPlngScan and save the image without
making any other changes?
Try it. If your default jpeg %age in DPingScan is, say 75% and lower than
about a 95% saved original, the image will be noticeably degraded on
re-saving. It depends on your starting image, settings and desire for
perfection but generally "no".
The use of jpegtran (by the J.. apps) enables alterations to jpeg files
_without_ changing the remaining original image data.
