Hi Andrew,
When I made the decision to buy an ARMX6 and have it shipped to Australia, I
committed to invest in the development of RISC OS and these nice machines -
because they are reliable and more stable than any x86 architecture. That's my
opinion.
So I am more than happy to pay for the upgrade. Looking forward to it!
Kind regards
Rob

Subject: [ARMini-support] Chargeable performance upgrade for ARMX6 incoming
Hi folks,
I thought I'd write to the mailing list ahead of the "big reveal" for our
next ARMX6 (and mini.m) software update.
This update will give a tidy performance boost to the machines, some three
years after the ARMX6 launched, which is pretty exciting :)
Unfortunately, it has been quite expensive to develop, and isn't covered
by the sales of machines. I had to make a decision whether to abort
development, or go ahead and fund it myself separately. I chose the
latter.
As such, the next update will be a separate, chargeable one, for ARMX6.
It'll also apply to mini.m, but I'm in two minds how to handle that, as
mini.m is only a few months old.
You may be worried that this means a "two tier" split - those who pay for
the update and those who don't. Don't worry, this will be provided as a
separate module. The regular, free software/OS updates will continue as
before, but those who buy the add-on will get extra functionality on top.
The free updates will continue and apply to everyone, just as before.
If you've enjoyed the free upgrades and extras that we've released since
you bought your machine, then I'd ask you to go ahead and purchase the new
add-on when it is released next week. We need to sell a fair few units to
cover costs. But on the other hand, making some day-to-day aspects of
your computer up to 10x faster isn't to be sniffed at, eh? :)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the update when it arrives :)
Best wishes,
Andrew
