it would be useful to know a bit more, like what areas it improves and

I assume that will be in next week's announcement.
I also assume that Andrew has good reasons for not giving us the details
now, or else he would have released it this week rather than next week.
It's a teaser to make you come to the London Show
It does sound exciting though.
yes.
This will cause me to update - something I've been putting off,
because I can't get my head around the various updates - disc image,
OS etc - and what the necessary sequence is to update. Does an OS
update require a particular disc image to have been done, or vice
versa?
How much work is involved in getting all my customisations restored
after a disc image?
A step=-by-step guide would be most useful.
I've just seen Andrew's reply, and I have to say that I do something a bit
different. I imagine that Andrew might not improve, but it suits my way of
working better.
I have renamed some of the directories on the original disc image; my
structure probably goes back to either Iyonix or even RISC PC days, and
I've got used to it. I don't have a Documents directory, but I do have
one called Words, which doesn't need updating as I don't think it contains
anything on the new disc image. I have Words, and instead of Text I have
Editfiles. Also, I have put Legacy inside Apps. In the last update I lost
part of my MimeMap file in !Boot, which initially puzzled me. Andrew has
since helpfully added the missing lines in this file in the !Boot on the
disc image. Having copied the supplied !Boot over my !Boot I then go on
directory by directory, noting the datestamps of the directories or files
and only copying over the ones that are newer. I don't copy Text over
Editfiles as that would muck up my customised copy of StrongED.
Sorry, Andrew, but that method suits me even if it's more complicated.
Best wishes,
Peter.
