I think most drives are writers these days. And I suspect a writer is more
likely to read R or RW discs from other writers.

Steffen Huber has a beat version 2.09 available that works on a 
Beagleboard and may do on a iMX based system.

Think he added some extra bit but may be to do with USB/SCSI attached 
drives.
