Even when it got to "0%" it still ran for at least an hour - probably
two. I am not sure if it's just getting a bit confused, or the battery
is just getting a bit tired.
One possibility is that the battery monitor may need to learn what the
battery can deliver. If that's the case then running it flat repeatedly
might improve its accuracy over time.
Anyone else noticed anything similar?
FWIW when I first used my then-new portable digital audio player its
percentage indication was waaaay off. They sent me a new version of its
operating system and that fixed it.
In the case of the ARMbook, the hardware reports a value of 0 to 99. We
simply read the appropriate memory location and report it to the user.
I did wonder if we could do something to allow the user to time the
depletion rate and thus extrapolate things, but ultimately, when you first
read the value, you have no idea what the number *really* means. ie. is
it 0% and 10 minutes remaining or 0% and 45 minutes remaining. Similarly
all the way up.
In the end I decided that really the only valid approach was to report the
number as given by the hardware, and explain the rest in the
documentation.
