One possibility is that the battery monitor may need to learn what the
battery can deliver. If that's the case then running it flat repeatedly
might improve its accuracy over time.

FWIW when I first used my then-new portable digital audio player its
percentage indication was waaaay off. They sent me a new version of its
operating system and that fixed it.
