The whole mechanism of strip reading relies on a high sample rate. The only
other alternative is some sort of mechanical means of locating the instrument
on a particular patch (i.e. SpectroScan, or i1io table).
So a strip is a continuous set of measurements that the driver has to parse into
measurement patches using some sort of heuristic (possibly augmented by zebra
ruler information). The trick is to recognise the stable regions as patches and
the changing regions as patch boundaries (hence the spacers between patches to
ensure a minimum contrast ratio.) So yes, longer patches and/or slower
measurement
means more samples averaged. The efficiency of gaining more samples by slowing
the
measurement down is limited by the aperture size to patch length ratio though.
