If you refer to my earlier rant about having to
buy Windows just because Eizo doesn't support
Linux, although their Website incites to this
thought, well, calibrating monitors as I
understand it, is something which needs to be
repeated from time to time. This will happen
in pretty large intervals, as I mistrust
Windows, having to disconnect all my disks
before allowing it to take control over my
hardware (and hope it won't mess too much in
the BIOS). And then, a trial version certainly
won't be valid anymore, and history will repeat
itself.
OTOH, Eizo decided to answer my inquiry today.
I don't know if it is because I mentioned this
on the list and someone of them is listening
(hear, hear), or it actually takes them so long
to answer until I gave up, ordered a hard
drive and Windows, and receive both also today.
Anyway, they sent me a link with an complicated
authentication mechanism and the indication
that this was 'tested' on Red Hat only and that
there is no type of support to this software.
Well, I don't fell left alone more than before.
But then, I had a closer look to those 80MB
which didn't fit on their Windows CD: They use
AdobeAir and require one particular version of
RedHat (saying that it's tested on RedHat
omits the fact that they know it won't work
anywhere else, even on a RedHat with a
different Version and also that it won't work
after the next Linux update).
If someone actually was inclined to rewrite
those nested scripts, there is still AdobeAir
which I have no idea about. It most probably
will try to relink all my libraries, and leave
my system then half RedHat, half Debian,
completely unusable. I also could create a
chroot environment with something looking like
that version of RedHat...
But seriously, why don't they just say, that
they don't like Linux people. X-Rite at least
told me that into my face (OK, by email) and
I'm trying hard not to buy anything more from
them. In the end, of course, I won't install the
Eizo RedHat mess. I just hope that I'll be able
to calibrate these two and use Argyll to
characterize them properly.
Well, beyond the fact that someone might want
to consider this before buying, this is not
really ArgyllCMS related, so I apologize for
that.
