If you are making your own patches and need a 'base' material-use poplin. That's what I get when I order blanks from one source. Just have to set your satin 'edge' tight so that when you cut the patch out it looks like a good merrowed edge. Or, do an outline of the patch in the material, cut it out, then use it as an 'applique' on one layer of thin backing-sew the design and satin stitch edge-and you should have a fairly decent looking 'patch' when you tear off the backing.
