Arlene, The reason I want to delete them is because I try to do a weekly backup to a thumb drive of all the folders I do not want to lose. I have four or five weeks on the thumb drive, and just delete the oldest version when I am ready to backup the current version. The hidden files just take up space that could be better used. I don't know what the reason is that some Word sessions leave a hidden file and the majority of sessions do not. Someone on this list told me about a year ago they were not needed and that it would not be harmful to delete them. I have not had any problems from deleting them. ----- Original Message ----- From: arlene To: accesscomp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, November 05, 2008 9:58 PM Subject: [accesscomp] Re: hidden items in a folder Hello: Why do you have to delete them often? Do they do something to your hard drive? ----- Original Message ----- From: Wayne W Hinckley To: accesscomp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, November 05, 2008 7:13 PM Subject: [accesscomp] Re: hidden items in a folder Marcus, Even though you carbon copied this list, I have not seen any response to your question, so I will make an attempt just in case you are still waiting. I run on an XP box, and this is what I did to show the hidden files. Go to Control Panel. go to Folder Options. You start on the General tab. Shift tab and arrow to the View tab. On that page is a treeview that includes a line whether or not to display hidden files. Change it as needed. Go to the OK and press enter. I find that temporary Word files accumulate, so it is a good idea to delete those periodically. Hope that helps.
