thanks all for the info about washers.  I will certainly go to the stores 
and look for models with dials rather than digital and try to get markers 
put on the buttons.

We last bought a washer about five or six years back, so they will probably
have changed a bit since then.  At that time, the Braille on the Hotpoint
models was no longer really Braille, but tactile markings.  I managed to
call the Hotpoint engineer and get them to change one or two of the
"markings" for actual letters, but I wouldn't be surprised if you just can't
get that far now.

So far as a washer itself is concerned, almost all people only use about two
or three of the programmes at all and some only one, so don't be put off by
that multitude.

Basically, to be able to turn knobs and hear them click around (knowing that
you'll have markers at certain points) is the easiest, though I know some
totals that do manage the more digital models.

mind, maybe one or two of us could take a peak and give you any comments.
