Hi JeffIf it's just for recording notes, phone number etc, the dm5 is probably a bit too upmarket. Olympus sell simpler voice recorders for as little as £40 which are easier to use than the dm5. The DM5 also has facilities for playing music, recording in stereo, daisy books, audible books, text to speech files and more.

Hi Guys, I have been looking for a simple, discrete, recorder for work. often for things like phone numbers but also longer messages and memos. Would you recommend this?In my former life, before losing my sight, I was a cameraman, and I swear I had less equipment than now, losing sight makes life complicated, but you do meet some really nice people.Jeff----- Original Message ----- From: "Ted Martin" <tedmart@xxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 08, 2012 5:43 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: dm5 digital recorderThanks John and Clive, that confirms what I thought. I don't have a 550, but the DM5 will take up to a 32 gig SDHC. I have a 32 gig class 10 in mine and it's fine with it. What would you say is the advantage of an SD card? I'm guessing it would have greater capacity, but how does it compare in terms of recording quality, or ease of use, or anything else? TIA, Ted. You don't need to use the software to transfer. Just remember that if you've got a card in the DM5 the card will come up in windows explorer as removable disk and the internal memory will come up as dm5.
