Hi JeffIf it's just for recording notes, phone number etc, the dm5 is probably a bit too upmarket. Olympus sell simpler voice recorders for as little as £40 which are easier to use than the dm5. You don't need to use the software to transfer. Just remember that if you've got a card in the DM5 the card will come up in windows explorer as removable disk and the internal memory will come up as dm5.
