Jeff, much as I like the DM5 type recorders, I would say it would be a bit like overkill to use one just for short messages which you may need to record in a hurry, at work.I used to be a telephonist, and used a hand held tape machine for this. Old technology I know, which may be ridiculed by some. But I still have such a device, made by Olympus as it happens, which I still use for phone numbers, short messages etc. I think you could probably get something like this from Argos, for example, for a much lower price than the range of Olympus digital recorders.Just my opinion of course, but you might consider it before paying more than you need.Cheers, Ted. Would you recommend this? In my former life, before losing my sight, I was a cameraman, and I swear I had less equipment than now, losing sight makes life complicated, but you do meet some really nice people. I don't have a550, but the DM5 will take up to a 32 gig SDHC. I have a 32 gig class 10in mine and it's fine with it. What would you say is the advantage of an SD card? I'm guessing it would have greater capacity, but how does it compare in terms of recording quality, or ease of use, or anything else? TIA, Ted. You don't need to use the software to transfer. Just remember that if you've got a card in the DM5 the card will come up in windows explorer as removable disk and the internal memory will come up as dm5.
