Hello Jonathan,

I never knew how to do this without going onto the Drop Box website itself. I too will give it a go tonight. I'm using Windows 7.

Best,
Clive

I appreciate the origional question but as you had brought this in to it, I took you up on it as I know Mo to be excellent with IT and he advised me of the difficulties of this with a screen reader. I will do as you say and you
can let me know if you get the request. Will do that privately.

On your PC, make a new folder within the Dropbox folder. Then, using
the normal PC context menu, arrow down and select "invite to folder".

On my setup, using NVDA and Firefox, it opens a new browser window
with the focus ready in the box to type an email into.

enter digitaltoast@xxxxxxxxx and tab twice to "send invite" and then
I'll reply privately with the folder name if all went well!

However, the original question related to created a dropbox folder to
share some items with a person on this list.

At least, that's how it's working here....

I disagree with you and I do not think you are a screen reader. Sharing
a
folder is easy peasy for a sighted person but not so easy for a screen
reader. If I want to share a folder with you, then why not let us try
it,
you tell me precicely what I need to do to share the same folder with you
so
it appears on your computer also? Then I will try it out and you can
give
me the name of the shared folder we have.

I think there's a lot of confusion caused by a misunderstanding of
what Dropbox is, or does, and how it works.

If you can use folders on a computer, be it Windows, Mac or Linux, you
can use dropbox as it simply extends the windows functionality.

As Clive and Colin said, its most simple you can just get the context
menu for an item in dropbox, and select "share this folder", and the
link is automatically then in my clipboard for pasting in an email.

You can also think of it as a tunnel, a conduit, between two PCs. If
person B accepts person A's invitation to their dropbox folder, that
folder will then automatically appear on their PC, and anything added
or removed at either end will appear or change on the other PC. And
that includes folders.

99% of the time, you don't even need to interact with or use the
dropbox site or application - most stuff can be done from context
menus.

Simples. Capisce?

I have discussed this in the past Billy with Mo who is a list member.
He
informed me that this can be difficult when using a screen reader. I
would
certainly love to know how to do it also without sighted assistance so
any
ideas anyone please? Even if someone can tell me using voice over
perhaps
on either iPhone or Mac.

you do not have to create a dropbox folder. she can send you a link to
each
file and you can download directly from her dropbox. for her to do
that,
he
needs to right click on the file and there would be a drop-down menu.
then
she needs to select shared dropbox link then she can go to her email
and
paste that link into the email. then send you the email and you can
download
from that link. alternatively if you wish to have a Dropbox then you
can
go
to Dropbox.com and download Dropbox directly onto your computer. once
you
have done that and registered with the Dropbox you can then share
folders
with each other.
