Hi David

Ok good advice but I believe dad doesn't keep any data on
the pc, he uses usb drives so it wouldn't matter if the
drive was to fail at this point. When we purchased the pc's,
the supplier was good that they supplied dvd's with all the
software on it. not sure if this would cause any
complications with registration, perhaps someone more expert
can answer that. Also, I believe the pc was switched off
over night, apparently it is back to normal now. I hope that
is the case.

Regards

Adrien

Hello Adrien,

I'm no expert in what to replace it with but I don't think
it'll be an issue.

I would seriously suggest, though, that the machine is left
powered on until you get the data backed up. Hard disks, I
believe, suffer the most stress and are most likely to fail
when being initially powered on.

Hi

My Dad's hard drive on his pc almost failed earlier last
night, something crashed, only by sheer luck we were able to
get it going again, mum tried for hours, not sure what
happened but something crashed and after 30 attempts and a
hard reset by turning the electric off at the rear of the pc
it started again, they tried to run windows back through but
nothing was seeing the drive but it seems ok now. But I have
a question, I don't know much yet but I was thinking of
getting a spare hard drive to keep in stock in case it goes
completely, what do I need to look for, amazon has them
reasonable, I have never got a drive like this, only usb
drives, what should I look for? Mum is going to give me the
mother board details. It has a 500 gb sata drive in now.

Regards

Adrien
