Hello John,

I must admit to having a better experience of Seagate than of Western Digital,
but didn't know what else was out there, and wanted to be sure that the person
asking about buying a hard drive got the full benefit of our experience.

Best,
Clive

Hi.

Well, Seagate took on samsung's hard drive division, and western digital have
bought out Hitachi. So there isn't much left between the various manufacturers
to be honest. I think Toshiba still make their own though.
Look for the amount of warranty that manufacturers provide, this can be a
generally good indication as to how much confidence they place in their own
equipment. my personal favourites have always been western digital or Seagate,
but i've also used hitachi in set top boxes in the past and they've not been
bad at all.

all the best,

Mo.

Hi,

I got a 2TB from Maplin's for not much more than that at the beginning of the
year. They even told me that nowadays you can get small USB-driven 4TB
drives. For quality and durability, what do people think is the best -
Seagate, Western Digital or A N Other? Are there any makes it's wise to avoid?

Best,
Clive

Hi,

Yes, i recently bought a new external 1TB drive for 56 quid. So expensive
they are not for what they are.

All the best

Hi Adrian,

It sounds as though you may need to look at getting that drive sooner, rather
than later. USB external drives are not too expensive, and at least you
would be able to backup your important data right away.

Hi

My Dad's hard drive on his pc almost failed earlier last night, something
crashed, only by sheer luck we were able to get it going again, mum tried for
hours, not sure what happened but something crashed and after 30 attempts and
a hard reset by turning the electric off at the rear of the pc it started
again, they tried to run windows back through but nothing was seeing the
drive but it seems ok now. But I have a question, I don't know much yet but I
was thinking of getting a spare hard drive to keep in stock in case it goes
completely, what do I need to look for, amazon has them reasonable, I have
never got a drive like this, only usb drives, what should I look for? Mum is
going to give me the mother board details. It has a 500 gb sata drive in now.

Regards

Adrien
