Hi Ian - sounds interesting, would be interested to know more about which tts engine you are using as we occasionally get approached by a variety of outfits looking to support products or practitioners in this way but can't advocate a low or no cost way of doing so at present which allows them to freely share copies of audio versions. =20 Adrian Higginbotham Project manager, Standards British Educational Communications and Technology Agency - BECTA Tel: Direct dial 024 7679 7333 - Becta switchboard 02476-416994. As =3D part of the project consortium, Text to speech engines have been bought in =3D from Lacuendo in Italy to serve multiple languages. = =3D20 National copyright laws apply; hence we need to put a rider in the =3D return E-mail of each result stating the responsibilities of the user and also =3D the copyright regulations covered. =3D20 Hope this clarifies the position a little more, but please feel free to =3D get back to me if there are any more questions. =3D20 Cheers=3D20 Ian. =3D20 Ian Beverley=3D20 ICT/E-learning Development and Project Officer=3D20 Research, = Development and Training=3D20 =3D20 Royal National College for the Blind=3D20 = College road=3D20 HEREFORD HR1 1EB =3D20 Tel - 01432 265725 Ext 2236=3D20 E-mail - ib@xxxxxxxxxx=3D20 -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf =3D Of Adrian Higginbotham Sent: 30 January 2007 12:11 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Text to speech converter Ian - interesting legal implications of such a service because of the licence for the voice you use. The usual speech synth licence which allows you to use it for real time work on your own system does not cover giving away copies of the use of that voice. If you want to share materials recorded with a given tts voice then you need to own a licence for that voice which gives permition to do so. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has explored this route, bought the licence or tried to do so as not all tts resellers seem to approach it in the same way, make the system transparent. Essentially, you would attach a document to an E-mail and receive the results back in minutes as an MP3 file. Some people have shown interest in piloting this already, but I am on the look out for many more. =3D3D20 =3D3D20 If you are interested, please feel free to E-mail me at the address below and I'll send you further information on the system, how to register and then how to use and test it.=3D3D20 =3D3D20 Many thanks=3D3D20 =3D3D20 Ian. =3D3D20 =3D3D20 Ian Beverley=3D3D20 ICT/E-learning Development and Project Officer=3D3D20 Research, Development and Training=3D3D20 =3D3D20 Royal National College for the Blind=3D3D20 College road=3D3D20 HEREFORD HR1 1EB =3D3D20 Tel - 01432 265725 Ext 2236=3D3D20 E-mail - ib@xxxxxxxxxx=3D3D20 Skype Bevers01 ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3D3D3Dunsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3D3D3Dfaq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3D3Dunsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3D3Dfaq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3Dunsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=3Dfaq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
