MessageHi Carol

the word "hi" was the first word I tried when i started predictive texting to,
and also got no where. the key is realising that you only need one press of a
key per letter. for example for "hi" you press number 4 twice and hi will come
up automatically.
. If you want a specific word, for example "then," and you get "them", if you
press your star key you can cycle through the various options available, in
this instance "then" is the first option. If the word you want isn't in the
list of alternatives you can press the talks key twice to go in to edit mode,
the first option you will find will be dictionary, select this and then arrow
down until you hear "edit word". this will allow you to type a word in and
once you press ok it will be added to the dictionary, to do this you type the
word in normal text mode and not predictive.

Ok is this as clear as mud to you? I know what i mean but often explaining it
is difficult.

  Caz,

Thanks for your offer of help. It's appreciated and maybe we'll write off
list, but for the moment I've decided to keep it on list just for a little
while, in case anyone else finds this interesting . . ..

I've tried it. I changed to "Dictionary On", altering this in the Tools,
Settings, Phone, General option, though I appreciate it you can do it using the
hash twice. At first I was stumped because I couldn't even get the word "Hi".
I know that maybe that's not the correct way to start a message, but I ought to
be able to write what I want! (I gave up with that one for the test, so now
I'll be interested in your comments here.) I continued and realised eventually
I got some confidence when I switched TALKS options to Words rather than Words
and Letters, so I then wasn't hearing any letters that appeared incorrect to
me. However, eventually I went back on that once I got a little more confident
because there were times when I found it better to have both on. I wrote quite
a lot of words with no problems and did speed up. I'm also aware I would
become faster. However, I then reached another word that didn't seem to work
and couldn't find how to make "them" into "then", for example. I think it's
worth persevering as it certainly has some merits.

I'd value a little more tuition now, please, and thank you for help coming my
way.

    hi carol

I would recommend you try it, you'll probably find it hard to go back to
anything else once you do. if you want to give it a go and want any tips then
feel free to email me off list.

      Ian,

I haven't really wanted to bother with it, since (on first glance) it
looked a bit of a pain; but if you need people to try it then I'll give it a
go!

        Hi all,

I'm curious to know whether Vis prefer to use predictive texting or not
when using Talks enabled phones. Personally I don't use it at all but I have a
blind friend who swears by it claiming that it's much faster. Any thoughts?

        Cheers now.
