Hi all,
also, if I haven't been reading a book for a little while, when I launch it
again, it takes me to a random place within the book, usually far, far back.
Then I have to find my way around the brilliant EasyReader navigation system
which cannot even tell me how long I have left in the book.
I am sure they are working on it, but blind people have lots of time and
nothing to do anyway, they will wait patiently as there is nothing they can do.
That is what RNIB seems to think these days. Let's all be grateful for bits we
were given!

A couple of weeks ago I had a book in pending for over 24 hours.
Repeated attempts to download The book then suddenly appeared to
work. The site, whilst I was in Safari, then told me that I had
already downloaded the book when clearly it had not come down at all.
The book was not only not visible in Finder but the Safari Download
console had no record of a download even being attempted. For the
record Safari has occasionally succeeded in downloading from the site so it
is not a permissions issue.
For some strange reason though the process works far better under
Google Chrome on the Mac side which is a useful workaround. I just
have to remember to launch the site in Google Chrome rather than Sa fari.

The other issue we are finding is that when we select a book for
download, at present, we could wait for hours for it to show up in our
pending downloads, and it won’t. We then go back to the book details
in question, and as soon as we hit the download button, two copies of
the book are then downloaded. Now we don’t have a download cap, but
those doing this on their phones might well do, and why would you want to
download two copies anyway?
There has to be a problem for that to keep happening?
I have raised this issue before, and it did sort of behave for a
while, but we’ve both noticed it is happening again. Yes the service
is great and all that, and I have no wish to get into a thread on its
good or bad points, but I do think it could be better in regard to
downloading. I know some of you have complained about the issue of
two parts to a book not working properly with EasyReader. As I don’t
use it, I’ll steer clear of that issue, except to say a fix w as promised a
long time ago!
Essentially the new reading service is great, and I would have
expected teething problems to start with. But potential bug fixes
people have complained about do seem to be taking a long time to iron out.

I am not sure that I can be particularly helpful but can agree that
the search algorithm is still a complete mess on the site.
The so called quick search area in which you can according to the
label enter Title, Author or ISBN only works in reality, in my
experience, for Title search for several weeks now.
So just now to test if this has changed at all I just went to the
quick search edit field and typed in Christie.
The RNIB site then reported to me that it has no search results
despite possessing loads of Agatha Christie novels.
In the past even using the advanced search is confusing as the
Advanced Search would not let me search unless I had something in the
Quick Search field as well.
So the method I find which works is to put your search entry into the
quick search field, then open up the advanced search and repeat this
entry into whatever field you need.
So just now I finally got the site to admit it had Agatha Christie
books as I had Christie in both the Quick Search and Author search
fields under the advanced section.
You could try replicating this method with your searches to see if it
solidifies the results. That is put the Title in both the Quick search
areas and the advance title areas.

I am just wondering if anyone could help with the following search
function of the reading services.< /p> If I do a title search, the
search results include some other titles which have nothing to do with
the original search terms, and exclude some of the titles which has
the original terms.
If I do advance search without specifying any terms, and, carry-out
the search to see all titles under certain categories, the result only
displays about the first 500 titles and excludes the rest. How could I
see the rest of the titles without further search terms?
