That's all what I was thinking. The user is used to Outlook Express and it would be hard to find anything more simple than that. It's for my mum actually and as she's always asking me how to do things, there'd be no point asking me if she was using Linux. So the price saving isn't really worth it in the end unless you are used to Linux.

Hi Barbara. While I wouldn't disagree with any of Keith's points, I certainly wouldn't recommend Linux for a novice. It is still very much a niche product with less take up than the Mac which is still a very paltry 8% I believe. A novice would find it difficult to find anyone to offer even the most straightforward of advice as they would not be at all familiar with the Linux supported applications. You can't really get much easier than windows, outlook express, internet explorer and word for basic use.Regards. Operation for a beginner should be no more difficult than windows. You get a gui interface so no need to learn the command line although, to be unbiased, there are more windows users so will be easy to get help. Also, linux is probably more secure. Virus writers tend to concentrate on windows where there are more users to affect. Note you can do as much on linux as windows, open office will allow similar facilities to office but is free. Hth. Incidently, I am writing this on a linux box. regards Keith ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
