Andrew,

You can still do that, as long as your in your open document, just shut down in hibernation mode when you re-boot it will open in the last document you had opened. . Windows key, right cursor and cursor right again to hibernation and press enter.

Hi Steve, Jim and Bob

Thanks. In this age of great software, I'm surprised that there's not a
way of booting up and being directly in an open file ready to go. I seem
to remember years ago I had a laptop that I would boot up and eventually
it would be in the same file as when I last closed it down.

All the best

Hi Andrew,

Instead of messing around with loading files etc or creating shortcuts to
files, why not simply make sure that MS Word is pinned to the top of your
start menu. Then, all you need to do is press your windows start button and
then down arrow once to ms word and press enter. Presto! A blank word
document. Then you are free to save it with whatever name you want.

Add a shortcut to the file to your startup folder.

Andrew,
Why not create a shortcut from the file onto your desktop, then it's a case
of one letter when you boot up to the file or nearly, depending on what
shortcut names you have on your desktop.
Find the file you want to open and bring up the application key, go to send
to and cursor right, in their is a shortcut to the desktop.

Hi Everyone

In the spirit of "access" I'm wondering how to get the fastest route from
turning on my laptop to getting in to a file for making notes.

Windows 8 with NVDA

For example, can I get a MS Word or text file to automatically open as soon
as Windows is loaded?

All the best

Andrew
