while it is true that bus stops can be disturbing if they speak loudly,
particularly in quiet streets, there should be no such problem with busses
on main roads where there is lots of traffic noise.

I don't think the idea of having real time bus information texted should be
entirely discounted either, as people are increasingly getting phones of one
kind or another that can speak or magnify text messages.

Cheers

Jim,

I've been reading these with interest.

As a thought or two, when you present this to your Council,
they're probably going to comment that they would be too
disturbing etc, but that is not a good enough reason for not
providing something for blind and partially sighted people. I
would suggest that they are asked to consider a talking bus stop
but one which, firstly, can be turned on (electronically or by
engineers) for 24 hours, or timed hours and that they also
consider the possibility of turning it off as a general rule,
except perhaps within general office hours, but providing a key
or number that the blind person could know to enter to get the
spoken information. (This is all possible, even if not a reality
yet!)

My reason for suggesting that, if possible, the stop is turned on
during the day is because this gives maximum help to blind people
locating the stop, as well as hearing its information.

Anyway, all the best with this.

Carol.
