Hi Hazel,
I don’t understand your sentence:
Even phones for the blind are censored as to what we can speak onto text
messages.
Can you explain that?
All the best

It is well known blindness is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to
disabilities.
Even phones for the blind are censored as to what we can speak onto text
messages.

Hello all,
I have seen references on other lists to apps which convert spoken word to
text. I do sometimes think that as a means of written communication, Braille is
as important to blind and DeafBlind people as British Sign Language is to
profoundly Deaf people as an alternative to spoken language. BSL is recognised
as a language in its own right, while Braille is often pushed to the margins.
What does this tell us about the need for us to stand up and be counted?
Best,
Clive

God love us! This is what tix me off guys! We are constantly being
disenfranchised and used as cash cows! I know I beat that horse a lot and the
reason why is simply because it's TRUE!
And I think the low levil of braille literacy is nothing short of Egrigious!
Keep in mind however that there will always be
people who need and use braille on a daily bases!

Let’s be fair though, trouble with anything Braille is that there is only a
small continent of Braille readers. About four percent of blind people actually
read Braille. So therefore, there’s no money in it. That’s why Braille is so
expensive.

Hi Henry
I did approach orbit research about selling the orbit in the UK but didn’t get
anywhere. Obviously they are exclusive with the RNIB. Ironically around the
time of sight city last year I got an email saying they were looking for more
resellers but think this was aimed at companies in continental Europe and they
didn’t realise I was in the UK. Cheers! Graham

Hi Petrina
Please may I suggest you send an email to the CEO of RNIB outlining your
experiences to date and I do wonder whether the RNIB have some legal
responsibility as a retailer for the provision of spare parts within a specific
time scale.
Best wishes and good luck
Henry

Hi all
If I can’t get a replacement battery for my Orbit Reader 20 can anyone
recommend what I could replace it with, I don’t think there is anything similar
to the Orbit Reader 20 I have to admit I don’t know a lot about note takers
which is why I bought the Orbit Reader 20 because it was simple to use and met
my needs, so I would very much appreciate your help with this one.
