And I think the low levil of braille literacy is nothing short of Egrigious!  Keep in mind however that there will always be people who need and use braille on a daily bases!

Primarily, this is because of people who believe that now audio books are so prevalent, you don’t need Braille.l This is rubbish. I’ll give up Braille when sighted people give up print.

Let’s be fair though, trouble with anything Braille is that there is only a small continent of Braille readers. About four percent of blind people actually read Braille. So therefore, there’s no money in it. That’s why Braille is so expensive.

For instance they been talking about the orbit slate, a multi line refreshable  braille   display,,, for about the last two years! And we still haven't seen it and course when we do it will be priced well beyond the capacity of any NORMAL person, to purchase it! Then there's the optima supposedly a laptop with qwerty keyboard and Sbrailleddpay built! in to it. GREAT where's it at?? Let's see it!  SO you will haftaa grant hunting  AK. Hi Graham,

I pretty much got the same, they are not interested in other resellers in the UK.

Hi Henry

I did approach orbit research about selling the orbit in the UK but didn’t get anywhere.  Obviously they are exclusive with the RNIB.  Ironically around the time of sight city last year I got an email saying they were looking for  more resellers but think this was aimed at companies in continental Europe and they didn’t realise I was in the UK.  Cheers!  Graham

Hi Petrina

Please may I suggest you send an email to the CEO of RNIB outlining your experiences to date and I do wonder whether the RNIB have some legal responsibility as a retailer for the provision of spare parts within a specific time scale.

Best wishes and good luck

Henry

Hi all

If I can’t get a replacement battery for my Orbit Reader 20 can anyone recommend what I could replace it with, I don’t think there is anything similar to the Orbit Reader 20 I have to admit I don’t know a lot about note takers which is why I bought the Orbit Reader 20 because it was simple to use and met my needs, so I would very much appreciate your help with this one.

All the best

Petrina
