As you know we fly on the RAF/USAAF or LW sides depending on numbers on the
servers, which gives us an insight to the way both side play.
The common denominator is the low flying attackers and fighters, now this is
were the LW have a slight advantage the AI rear gunner ;). We flew the start
of yesterday on the LW side as no one was on that side, the allied side were
mainly ground attacking with their numbers. They flew low straight and were
easy pickings despite their numbers, the same happened when we flew RAF later
in the day. The advantage of the LW is if they use 110’s their rear gunners
give them warning, and their AI ability to get an engine hit no matter what the
angle lol. But if they fly 109’s and 190’s they go down as easy as the 47’s,
Tempest, 51’s. Why because they are low and cannot see behind them as they are
mainly flying as singles.
The last sortie of the day we flew Tempest after bagging 3 enemy to add to the
total of 11 for yesterday. We saw two enemy aircraft leaving their airfield,
and followed them out they were low flying classic finger four formation. Now
this is where they got lucky our line and dive was good, but as we got to a
certain distance from them we lost sight:(. In the tacview it showed after
losing sight of them we the actually flew right over the top of them :(. Also
it showed in tacview they did not see us, very lucky lol.
Any ways once we lost sight of the enemy we were on the look out for more and
noticed further to the west of us two aircraft slightly higher than us. Which
could have been two enemy aircraft returning to base, so we decided not to try
and look for the aircraft we had chased, the higher aircraft were the threat.
So using our speed from our dive down we set off after the new aircraft
spotted. Curved around, climbed, and setup for the bounce. Using our speed we
then dived down on to the six of the aircraft, again flying in finger four
formation. As we got close below their six, we noticed that they were two
Tempest carrying bombs lumbering around at 3000ft, we both sighed flew below
them and headed to the east. Again if they saw us they did not show it or that
they saw it was two Tempest coming in behind them and where not bothered. If we
were 109’s they would have been dead, why because they were flying low even if
they had seen us. On both cases even though the formations attacked should have
seen us, it proves that you can fly these mutually supporting formations, but
if you don’t use it properly it’s not worth flying them.
Our day finished on a bad note as we got shot down low, separated, low on fuel,
and altitude beat us to hammer the point home lol.
