Makes me wonder why the designers didn't put in a command to mount every drive on the system. Then you can unmount any you don't want the box to have access to (in the incredibly rare event of your wanting that).

Wouldn't a sensible system a) mount all your operative drives, and b) mount them with the same drive names they normally have (including C:) and give the drive for the box some different letter. A: and B: are both available, since the demise of floppies.

​Boxer (and DOSBox) only see drives, and their contents, that have been "mounted" in the configuration file. So for example one can mount the Mac desktop as, say, d:\; then anything on it is recognized. Files in other locations on the host just don't exist for it, unless and until their location is mounted as a drive.
