Dear Keith, Many thanks for an enjoyable evening plus the meal and drink. I'm sure I will return the favour at some point. It was also good to see some new folk that I haven't seen or spoken to before at the pub. As for the radio, my Kenwood THF7E worked well. The second harmonic made things so much easier when I was close by. However the transceiver would only go to 1.3GHz so I couldn't quite the third harmonic. I did knock a quick 10db attenuator which I don't think was enough. Next time I will go higher and maybe use the variable attenuator I was making. The new 3 element antenna (even with oversize aluminium) worked well. My handle made the use a whole lot easier but it does make the size bigger and not so discrete. Maybe if the next fox hunt is on a free weekend then my second hunt maybe better although I'm proud to have made out Keith's location after walking up and down TW common 3 times from starting high up on Mount Ephraim. 73 de M0NAY Regards from Chris Pegrum chris@xxxxxxxxxx > On 28 Aug 2014, at 11:20, "keithlbird@xxxxxxx" <dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > (Redacted sender "keithlbird@xxxxxxx" for DMARC) wrote: > > Thanks Allan and Steve for your feedback and in taking part last night, sorry > you were mislead by my signals, but that's all part of the learning for these > events. > > I found that the 30secs tx was short for me and as the evening went on, I was > extending this to 45secs, perhaps we need this to be a minute. > > As I have found, the receiver and ability to reduce RF gain/attenuate signals > is key.
