Cynthia et al- Where were you all looking on the lake, and where from? I was heading to the airport at Milwaukee from Madison, and instead of Zeloski (because I was out of time) I went to Korth Park on the west side of Rock Lake and scanned east. I had a loon I am convinced was a Pacific that I posted on the WIBIRDSOUTH txt service, on the south side of the lake in the middle. I was pretty far away, but the individual was notably smaller than the several other Common Loons in the area (both winter and breeding plumaged) and had an obvious chin-strap, which I could see both when the bird faced me and from the side. I couldn't detect any of the blotchiness that would appear on a winter Common (and that shows in the photos linked above), and the demarcation between neck and throat was even, and the bill appeared finer. I was there from 7:30 to a little after 8 (don't risk this at Korth, though! I forgot about the automatic gate that closes at dusk - I don't know what I would have done if it had closed...) and had good light looking east.
