Dear Birders:
When we arrived at the Great Gray Owl location at about 10:10 this morning,
there were already about 11 cars there. The owl was perched in the large
tree
on the east side of the road, right where the snow-mobile trail makes a
turn.
Everyone was enjoying the owl for about 45 minutes, when things turned sour.
This whole time there were two individuals half way up the hill on the west
side
of the road, in camouflaged suits, each with a large lens on their camera.
They
didn't join the rest of us down on the road.

Then about 10:55 +/- the owl flew to a fence post, then crossed the road to
the
west and landed in the snow just past a group of trees. At that time the
two
individuals up on the hill approached the owl, and appeared to throw items
in the snow
which attracted the owl to them. We didn't see the owl pick anything up.
Doing this four or five times, they drew the owl up toward and to the
house up on
top of the hill, too far away to be seen well. To bad about the 30+ people
down on the road, many from out of state, we want the owl up here. O
course
we're not selfish. You folks can just come back another day. Too bad!

People on the road were looking for appropriate adjectives without much
success.

So it goes!

Anyway, the owl is still there and in good shape.

Good birding..................... Paul & Glenna
