Pine Siskins have appeared in large numbers in the central portion of
Campbell County (south of Lynchburg). We originally observed 4 Siskins
at the feeder on December 13. The numbers have increased each day and by
December 20, we had flocks of 50 or more birds every day. On December
28, we counted 85 Pine Siskins at the four feeders on our deck. On
December 20, the Lynchburg Christmas Count set an all-time high number
for Siskins (302) on this Count. Of these 302 birds, 265 were observed
in the southern portion of the Count Circle.
