Hi all,
Here is the latest update on banding and migrants on the Eastern Shore.
In all, the season is progressing nicely with all the expected migrants
appearing in good numbers now. New birds the past week or so have been
Glossy Ibis, Chimney Swift, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, White-eyed Vireo,
Black and white Warbler and Yellow-throated Warbler. Just the last couple of
days has seen a significant increase in herons and egrets. The Ramp lane
area on the Eastern Shore Refuge has had at least two Sedge Wrens ongoing as
well as some cooperative Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed and Seaside Sparrows. An
interesting note on the Orange-crowned Warblers I have been seeing in the
area of the bunker on the Refuge...one is banded, which if it one of our
captures from two years ago would make it several years old. It seems to
have chosen this area as a suitable wintering ground more than once. The
pair of Killdeer next to the Refuge visitors center have a full clutch of
eggs already. This pair always seem to be the early birds.
