Hi all,
Here is our current banding totals from the Eastern Shore. Yellow-rumped
(Myrtle) Warblers continue to dominate but there has been a definite
drop-off the last two days. This morning at Wise Point, hundreds were
observed flying at altitude into the wind which at that point was still from
the south-west. If this year holds true to the pattern seen in previous
years, this staging phenomenon will be followed by a sharp drop off. Eastern
Phoebes continue as one of the most numerous migrants along with Tree
Swallows with a smattering of other swallow species observed as well. Today
marked the first of the Common Yellowthroats, one of the dominant migrants
on the Shore in spring. Royal and Forster's Terns have started to return
here as well as Laughing Gulls which certainly now number in the 100's in
some locales.
