Hi all,
To add to Ned Brinkley's fine report from the Eastern Shore, I thought I
would throw into the mix our banding totals to date and a few other
additional sightings.
There seems to be a few lingering northern birds about. Pine Siskins have
been seen a number of times in the last week and today at Wise Point there
was a fly-over Purple Finch and American Pipit. There are still 4 or 5
Red-breasted Nuthatches on the Eastern Shore Refuge as well.
As viewed from Wise Point, there has been a somewhat steady flow of migrant
shorebirds over the past 10 day/two week period...mainly Greater and Lesser
Yellowlegs, Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers, Short-billed Dowitchers
and Least Sandpipers with smaller numbers of Solitary and Spotted
Sandpipers, and Whimbrel. Sometimes there can be hundreds of birds moving
during the first few hours after sunrise...very interesting to watch from
this vantage point.
