Hi

Yes, it depends on how you set up ThinPrint. In some cases, you *don't* =
need any client software since you install the "client" on the remote =
print server.=20

We have used it for years and it speeds up print jobs on offshore =
platforms really well.

Cheers

Russell

Hi,
=20
It is spoolend on the .print engine, this can be a client but normally =
this is the print spooler it self.
There are some nice documents on thinprint.com website, there are =
several types of infrastructure designs.
Maybe usefull to watch this stuff!,
ThinPrint looks good!

in terms of security, i.e. a corporate document being sent to a users =
client,
it is no different to Citrix's UPD, i.e. they both spool to the clients =
hard
drive?

thanks again,

Brian

Hi,

No Thinprint is using EMF format (windows default ) and doesn't do =
anything
with PDF!

Thanks Joe,

If I remember rightly, your name appears in the MIB doc! If your the =
same
guy.. then thanks to you and the rest of the MIB crew! If not, thanks =
anyway
for your response.... just one more question...

Is ThinPrint one of the render the print job in PDF format and send to =
client
to then spool?

Thanks again...

Brian

a) yes
b) yes with redundant .print server engines
c) yes (thin print was designed for enterprises in mind)

UPD is just a HP Laserjet PCL driver. It doesn't work with many of the
printers out their (PS, 5Sis, GDI/Host based, etc)

Hi Steve,

I'm being very lazy here, but..

a) does ThinPrint require an additional client sw?
b) if money was no object, what would you recommend as the best thin =
client
printing solution... and don't say a global gigabit fibre network for =
all
users.
c) would you recommend Thinprint for large corporates?

The Citrix UPD is not a driverless solution. UPD is an actual print =3D
driver
that tends to be compatible with a lot of printers and can be used when =
=3D
the
native driver is either not available or is problematic. With UPD, the =
=3D
print
job is still processed on the server with a print driver and then
transferred to the client. This means that the transfer to the client is =
=3D
the
fully expanded print output and can be quite large.

A Driverless printing solution is able to re-direct the raw print =3D
command
stream to the client device. At the client device the print driver is =
=3D
called
and used to process and expand the print output. As a result, the amount =
=3D
of
data transferred to the client is far less. In addition, the print =3D
driver
does not need to reside on the server and many issues are thereby =3D
bypassed
which often occur on Citrix servers with print drivers.

Hi List,
=3D20
Can anyone explain when Thin Print and when the Universal Printer driver =
=3D
is
used. So what are the advantages of Thin Print compared to Citrix =3D
Universal
Printer driver. Is UPD good enough for "driverless" printing ? Any =3D
issues
with UPD in large environments ?
