[texbirds] Tuesday morning birding, Hagerman NWR

With the lake still less than .5 ft. Below the spillway the refuge is closed to
the public. We once again birded outlying areas close to the refuge. It was
hot and birds were not near as active as they have been in past weeks. We
finished the day with 44 species. The two standouts were an Olive-sided
Flycatcher and a Ladder-backed Woodpecker. We sat and watched the woodpecker
excavating a hole in a power pole cross arm for at least 10 minutes. We don't
see Ladder-backed Woodpeckers here that often so this was a real treat. We only
observed 1 Least Tern today. So it appears something, probably a Great Blue
Heron has predates
