On a wonderful cool summer day birding at the refuge continues to be above
average for this time of year. Black-crowned and Yellow-crowned Night-herons
were seen at Deaver Pond. Lots of Yellow Warblers were present in the willows
and Button Bush. A Common Yellowthroat was a good find near the Big Mineral
picnic area. There were lots of wood Ducks in Mineral Marsh. We also had a
late straggler Upland Sandpiper near south end of Short Rd. Species count for
the day was 66.
