NEXRAD this morning is showing an interesting phenomenon. The front has
arrived at all stations by noon. However VAD wind profiles show the
incoming cold air to be very shallow, just the first 2000 ft. or so. Above
that winds remain from the south and incoming trans-Gulf migrants appear to
be continuing toward shore on these favorable upper winds. I don't think I
have seen a situation quite like this so I have no idea what will happen
when these birds get over land (some have already). I speculate that they
will drop into the north winds and cease migrating on or near the coast,
but that is just a guess.
