I disagree. The speed will NOT change. Remember, the idler is used only as a transfer medium. The motor shaft will cause both the idler and the platter to move a given amount based on the circumference of the shaft. Platter speed was changed by changing the step on the motor shaft. Many times those old idlers could be restored by ruffing up the surface with sandpaper.
