A fresnel lense has circular grooves in it. Way back in 1985 there were
plans in Radio Electronics to build a flat satellite dish out of a sheet
of plywood. They had cut slots in the plywood forming large circles on
the sheet with each slot getting farther apart as it went toward the
outside, and the author described it as comparing the "flat dish" to a
fresnel lense in the way it was to focus the energy toward the center of
the dish. That was the first time I ever heard of a fresnel lense. BTW,
I never heard of any hobbyist ever building that dish. I doubt if it
worked worth beans but would love to hear if anyone tried it.
