I have a similar problem but it is the other way round. I have an existing pelican crossing about 50m from a T junction that I am considering converting to a stream of the main controller. We will retain the existing far side signals but convert to standard signal sequence. Presumably I should remove all zig zags and advertise removal of pelican crossing? No zig zags on an associated pedestrian facility which is out of sight around a small one way system, one junction on which is controlled by signals. We have so many complaints from Police but to install zig zags would inhibit all trade at adajacent shops. Yes, we know that sometimes parked vehicles obstruct visibility, but they would do that even if the zig zags were there. Deliveries have to be made and we have no accident problem at this location. So - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is our policy with this one. It meets the regs - even if all do not agree. I have a new Junction being installed with walk with traffic peds on three arms + an off-set ped facility approximately 30m from the main junction. This offset ped will be controlled by the main junction controller as a separate stream or with phase delays (still to be agreed), and the question has been asked whether the road markings for the offset ped should be zig-zags or the standard stop lines/centre line with double yellows. The signal equipment will be nearside puffin type with pedestrian detection. There is also a mid block dual puffin crossing being installed approximately 100m from the offset crossing that will have zig-zag markings. My initial thoughts are that we should use zig-zag markings for consistency, but 5/05 Pedestrian Failties at Signal Controlled Junctions does not advise this. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.=3D3D20 Kind Regards Peter Hodge MIHT Traffic Signals & Integrated Systems Manager=3D3D20 Lighting, Signals & Vehicles Group=3D3D20 East Sussex County Council=3D3D20 Transport and Environment=3D3D20 The Broyle=3D3D20 Ringmer=3D3D20 Lewes=3D3D20 East = Sussex BN8 =3D 5NP=3D3D20 Tel: 01273 481834=3D3D20 Fax: 01273 481389=3D3D20 This message is intended for the use of the addressee only and may contain confidential or privileged information.
