Peter, 'if' you do decide to put in Zig-Zag's then you obviously need to advertise this facility as a separate 'Puffin' crossing=20 as I understand it 'regs' don't allow zig-zags at anything other than a Puffin/Pelican/Toucan Anthony Sharp=20 Engineer (Traffic Signals)=20 Highways South Gloucestershire Council=20 Broad lane, Yate BS37 7PN=20 Tel: (01454) 86 3605=20 Fax: (01454) 86 3757=20 Find out more about the work of the Highways Section at: www.southglos.gov.uk/highways =20 =20=20 -----Original Message----- From: tcug-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:tcug-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Peter Hodge Sent: 04 January 2008 11:10 To: tcug@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [TCUG] Offset Pedestrian Facilities at a Controlled Junction - Zig-Zag markings or Not Happy New Year to one and All Hopefully, you guys can offer some good advice on this one. I have a new Junction being installed with walk with traffic peds on three arms + an off-set ped facility approximately 30m from the main junction. This offset ped will be controlled by the main junction controller as a separate stream or with phase delays (still to be agreed), and the question has been asked whether the road markings for the offset ped should be zig-zags or the standard stop lines/centre line with double yellows. The signal equipment will be nearside puffin type with pedestrian detection. There is also a mid block dual puffin crossing being installed approximately 100m from the offset crossing that will have zig-zag markings. My initial thoughts are that we should use zig-zag markings for consistency, but 5/05 Pedestrian Failties at Signal Controlled Junctions does not advise this. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.=3D20 Kind Regards Peter Hodge MIHT Traffic Signals & Integrated Systems Manager=3D20 Lighting, Signals & Vehicles Group=3D20 East Sussex County Council=3D20 Transport and Environment=3D20 The Broyle=3D20 Ringmer=3D20 Lewes=3D20 East Sussex BN8 = 5NP=3D20 Tel: 01273 481834=3D20 Fax: 01273 481389=3D20 This message is intended for the use of the addressee only and may contain confidential or privileged information.
