That's what my dilemma is, I had the pin pop out on my 77 last week and got re-aquainted with the PITA procedure. The ball at the bottom of this shift rod does not have one (never did) and I don't recall a slot in the bowl of the front shift rod either. Mike says his spins around freely as well so I'm thinking it was made that way? Also how hard is it to replace the bushings and or bearings in the center pin area? I drove it to the lake klast night and the handling is really scary. It moves up and down when you move the wheel left or right... the Bus jumps sidways when you hit a bump --- On Sun, 9/12/10, mechmark@xxxxxxxxxxx <mechmark@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: mechmark@xxxxxxxxxxx <mechmark@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: So I drove the 23 Window around the hood an hour ago... Yep, that one, there appears to be nothing to stop it from rotating around and around which puts the "L" shaped extension on the end of the shift rod in different locations depending on where it has rotated to when it comes time to shift. Like hitting the parcel tray or the seat cushion.... --- On Sat, 9/11/10, Conrad Klahn <conradk@xxxxxxx> wrote: From: Conrad Klahn <conradk@xxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: So I drove the 23 Window around the hood an hour ago... Once I get mine back I plan to install a gene berg shifter. On Sep 11, 2010, at 9:22 PM, James Dwan <james_dwan_2000@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: Sweet! I'm sure I'll get pulled over one day. I was thinking when they see seat belts in the front and not in the middle seat or rear they will hassle me if anyone is riding back there. Question about the shift rod: Is it supposed to swivel around like that? My Bay has a "piston" that fits in a slot in the "bowl" of the rod under the floor but the Splitty does not. It just spins around 360 degrees, this can't be normal can it? --- On Sat, 9/11/10, Mike Hayes <mike@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Mike Hayes <mike@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [tcb] Re: So I drove the 23 Window around the hood an hour ago... To: tcb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010, 8:46 PM Ya they drive like crap but, makes me look really good. The first time I drove mine and pulled into the gas station it took me 20 min to get out of there cause people kept talking to me , taking pictures, and telling me their stories about a VW bus.
