The original option was that the secretary informed everyone by the e-mail list that i created to put out as a group e-mail so everyone got all the information at once, as members increased the amount of e-mail that were requesting me to pass on to individuals also increased hence the reason for the new system it was supposed to lighten the workload of the secretary, it is for group communication not for individual communication, you can still e-mail individuals when you need to. It is not designed to air your personal views as Charles quite rightly stated that's what the AGM is for, you also be deleted from the list if you do not wish to get information via this means, but please do not expect it to come via the post. This was also a reason why we voted this system in to keep the cost down. There is no new website. Chris Norton has already built the website. All we are suggesting is that we splash out £6(!) on a name and through the magic of t'interweb this name can point at the existing website. Freelists will continue, but with one significant change as discussed last weekend. The current list will stay as it is and members can opt out if they don't like it. There will however be new a master list with everyone who has email on it, just for official communication which only the secretary and chair can post to. I'll also be drafting some guideline for using the lists to try and encourage acceptable use. Any comments on this please send to me directly at mr.steve.pickard@xxxxxxxxx Hope that explains it better Steve On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 8:53 AM, Charles Hassett <cam.hassett@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Hi Martin This sounds like an excellent idea but would it not also be an opportunity to deal with the less desirable aspects of the 'freelist' facility which has, unfortunately, enabled personal issues to interfere with the professional nature of the association (and I am as guilty as any!). Would it be possible to design a website that had a purely informational, professional portal for S&DBKA with a members forum for those who either want to grind their axes or just have an exchange of views? If we have something in the kitty as Simon indicates, would this not be a worthwhile expense? The costing for this is £6 for two years this would provide email addresses for the association and make the web more accessible, promoting the Sleaford District. I am canvassing opinion on this matter. All comments welcomed...within reason. We would like if possible to give the go ahead this weekend, so if there are no real issues the committee would like to authorising the go ahead this weekend. Regards Martin Robinson Treasurer
