[SI-LIST] Re: 2D, 2.5D,3D

The only place I have used 2.5D extractors is when I am extracting
parasitic information for placed and routed ASICs. Generally this is
only distribute RC parasitics. These parasitics are then back annotated
into the verilog and static timing analysis is performed.

The advent of 2.5D was to address the need for accurate parasitic extraction
for very large ASICs, but not take for ever as a 3D solver would.

There was a discussion about 2.5D the end of last year. Unfortunately,
seems there is no clear agreement on 2.5D, especially on how it is related
to an advanced word "fractional theory". There is a paper provided by Shawn.
But do not confuse yourself while reading the paper. You can search it in
the archive.

Good luck.
