Actually, there is quite a bit of resistence on these shutters in selecting 1/500th even if the shutter is not tensioned, because you are engaging/tentioning an aux spring to get you to this high speed. It's important to emphasize Carlo's advice... DO NOT MOVE the shutter speed dial to 1/500th if the shutter is cocked.
