Actually, there is quite a bit of resistence on these shutters in selecting 
1/500th even if the shutter is not tensioned, because you are 
engaging/tentioning an aux spring to get you to this high speed.

It's important to emphasize Carlo's advice... DO NOT MOVE the shutter speed 
dial to 1/500th if the shutter is cocked.

Hello:

1)I don't know your problem moving the shuuter speed
selector wheel to 1/500, however it's normal for the
Automat Compur shutter that you'll find a strong
resistence to select 1/500 if the shutter is
cocked,you need to select it before to cock the
shutter.
