The f/1.4 is a bit expensive for me; I mainly bought the much less expensive f/1.8 so that my son Arthur, age 16 and a total novice at photography, can take the no-brainer EOS Elan 7 with the 50 mm f/1.8 mounted on it to India, where he is going for his summer vacation in July. For myself, I'm saving up to buy Canon's image-stabilised EF 28-135 f/ 3.5-4.5 USM IS for my Elan 7. I hope I won't need any more lenses for the Elan after that!
