No, it becomes the equivalent focal length of 45mm to 158mm when you account
for the smaller sensor. Not very useful if you need a wide angle. The best
lens to get is the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8. If you must have a Canon lens at a
decent price get the 18-55 IS (Image Stabilization) lens. It is a better
choice than the 28-105 (a very old lens) which is a lens designed for film.
There is a major benefit in having newer lenses designed for digital. They
accommodate the need for the light to be more perpendicular when reaching
the digital sensor than would be required for film. This is seen more in
wider angles.
