I agree with djx, nice off the shelf office machine, but I don't like the shared video or the vista operating system. 


If you want real guaranteed performance, go get a laptop designed for audio.

It'd be better if you had a 7200 rpm drive.
YOu don' know what chipset that firewire port is, if it ain't texas instruments, you'll have trouble with your m-audio 1814 probably.
Spend the money now for the right stuff, then you won't have headaches and regrets for something that won't work right.
